The Long-Term Changes that Come with True Career Clarity
There’s one common theme I’ve noticed about some of my most successful superstar clients...they truly integrate and embody our work together. I wanted to share a bit more about this concept so that you can benefit from this mindset as well.
The folks I find have the most success do not look at our work together as a “one and done” thing. They don’t look at it as a band-aid solution. They don’t come to me and say “what is my next career step?” and then stop taking steps after that. No, the clients I find are the most successful, work to develop their purpose statement and continually come back to it, using it as a true “north star” for their career for years to come.
Here’s the thing: my focus with clients is on the outcome of figuring out what they want to do next in their career, and it’s not, simultaneously. It’s about so much more than that. The true focus of my work with clients is on helping them to release the pressure of what they “ought” to be doing, so they can come back to themselves (and trusting their own career decisions again). It’s on helping them develop their lens for what is a “yes” job and a “no” job for them. It’s about helping them pin down their true calling and desires, and use it as a directional north star for all of their career decisions long-term. It’s more about developing a toolkit.
Recently I’ve heard from a few clients who have really taken this work to heart, and I wanted to share a few thoughts about them with you so that you can see what is possible when you pursue true inner direction and understanding (instead of a quick fix answer to “what is my perfect job?”).
Haley did a group program with me a few years back, and she’s still reaping the benefits of our work. As a result of working together, she realized that her current company wasn’t necessarily her issue, but she did need to make some shifts in terms of what kind of work she was doing in order to feel fulfilled. She started focusing on training more internally, and proposed a custom role within her company and got it! Years later, she’s still focused on following that same inner directional clarity, and it has led her to success and happiness like she couldn’t have imagined! This completely custom role she designed for herself has cemented into “her thing”, which is the true definition of a perfect fit!
You can watch more about Haley’s story here:
When I receive notes like this, I tend to know that someone is heading the right direction.
So if you take anything away from this post today, please let it be this: if you can figure out where you want to go and WHY, it tends to be a much better approach to lasting change than getting a quick fix answer on “I should do X”.
While we all want the quick answer sometimes, lasting direction that you can keep coming back to time and time again? That’s really where it’s at if you ask me (or my clients). ;)
To finding clarity that lasts!
